By Sachin Gaikwad understanding of financial statements is one of the key competencies needed for all investors, employees or anyone interested in determining the health of a company. Most books written on this subject are accountants for accountants. Because they are rarely understood by the layman. This is where the book comes into the picture. "The McGraw-Hill Course 36 hours of Finance for Non-Financial Managers" is an excellent training book will guide you through the concepts involved in the financial statement and income statement, balance sheet simply and directly mixed with a pinch of humor here and there. Robert Cooke, keep it simple approach, use of funny, fictitious companies as "House Husband" and that companies use to understand as "Lemonade Stand" to build the concepts behind the budget makes great use of the names of common place book personal as Rosie, Alice, etc. Jeff makes the book easy to read format and storytelling engages the reader comfortable. Interestingly, the author / publishers seem to have limited their audience by calling the book for "non-financial managers." But in reality, this book is for all ... I highly, highly recommend this book ... Definitely read it! Sachin-6 of 6 people found this review helpful. Review of Finance Robert Cooke C. With non-financial managers Byers An excellent tutorial to understand the financial and operating small businesses. Clear, well written, very tasty presentation of a usually dry topic. The emphasis is on concepts, with enough examples to make the point number. The book will not make you an accountant, but will give you the basic skills, the ability to understand counter-talk, and a good understanding of the basis of assets based on long-term prospects for financial self-exams found at the ends of the chapters useful. I looked for a number of books on this subject and this is the only one I found gave me the information I wanted, so straightforward and accessible. Thank you, Mr. Cooke! 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Accounting for the rest of us by M. Grobler have a small service company and I'm a busy service providers. I always used APC to do my taxes and always feeling lost, confused, overwhelmed by the tons of reports that could not or did not explain. I've messed up, but through it was enough that I started to educate myself. This book is a gold mine. It is so readable, understandable and so so funny (yes, he puts on splendid examples of the fun - hunting Uncle Roscoe, etc.) I can not imagine what I would expect more than a tedious textbooks, but it's fun to read, easy to understand and at the end of chapter problems are on point. I work with them to get the right solution, reinforcing the principle. Hardily I recommend this book for anyone who has to do with money or speak with the accountants. I feel confident to deal with my counter next to much more favorable than the previous experiences. See all 9 reviews ....
